About the Role
Emergence is hiring its first Director of IT to build the IT function from the ground up across a holding company and its portfolio. You'll serve as the primary IT owner, working alongside a fractional senior IT/Security advisor and a managed service provider to centralize what creates leverage while respecting what portfolio companies already do well. This is a foundational role where you'll shape how IT scales across multiple companies.
What You'll Do
- Run the IT workstream for every acquisition, including stack inventory, access mapping, device setup, and systems integration at roughly three closes per quarter.
- Build and operationalize the Day 1-100 acquisition integration playbook that currently doesn't exist.
- Design and operate joiner/mover/leaver workflows across the portfolio, ensuring complete offboarding.
- Own the identity platform after selection and rollout, managing SSO, provisioning, and lifecycle workflows.
- Maintain a living inventory of tools, accounts, credentials, licenses, and renewal dates to inform consolidation and security decisions.
- Manage the MSP relationship, SLAs, vendor contracts, and license consolidation to maximize portfolio volume pricing.
- Build backend connections that feed the cross-portfolio data platform.
What We're Looking For
- 6–10 years in hands-on IT operations, systems administration, or MSP/consulting delivery, with at least 3 years in an IT leadership role.
- Proven experience running IT across multiple companies, business units, or clients simultaneously.
- Track record owning the IT workstream of acquisitions, from due diligence through post-close rationalization.
- Deep fluency in identity and access operations (Okta, Entra, JumpCloud, or similar platforms).
- Strong vendor and license management instincts, including contract negotiation and SLA oversight.
- Comfort systematically mapping undocumented environments and building playbooks rather than executing handed-down ones.
- Excellent business stakeholder management across all organizational levels.
- Understanding of tradeoffs between centralized and decentralized IT delivery models.
- Prior PE portfolio or holding company experience is a plus.
- Admin depth in both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 is a plus.
- Background in regulated segments (healthcare, finance, defense) is a plus.
