About the Role

You'll be one of Alder's first engineers, building the operating system that powers our property management company. At its core is the property brain—a context layer that understands each property, owner, resident, lease, payment, and maintenance history—giving our team and AI systems the information they need to automate work across leasing, maintenance, and accounting. You'll work closely with founders and our property management team to shape both our product and engineering practices.

What You'll Do

• Build the data model and workflows behind Alder's property management operating system.
• Develop AI systems that use property context to carry out work, recognize missing information, and escalate to humans when needed.
• Make practical engineering decisions in high-stakes areas like payments, financial records, and resident communications.
• Ship to real users, learn from gaps in the system, and iterate based on feedback.

What We're Looking For

• Experience taking projects from problem definition through launch and iteration, ideally at an early-stage startup or in a founding engineer role.
• Track record of building and shipping production software end to end, whether backend or full-stack.
• Comfort with TypeScript, Python, and Postgres (or willingness to learn them quickly).
• Ability to take ownership, learn rapidly, and thrive in ambiguity.

Location

On-site in San Francisco. You must be based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate.
