About Clera

Clera is building AI agents that help startups hire and talented people find their next role. We combine technology with hands-on recruiting support to connect companies with candidates who fit what they need. Our work spans finding candidates, starting conversations, assessing fit, and coordinating introductions.

We work with startups including Mintlify, Luminai, and Windsurf. Our goal is to make recruiting more useful for both sides: companies meet relevant people, and candidates get introduced to opportunities worth considering.

We're hiring a Sales Development Representative in Salt Lake City to bring more companies to Clera. You'll work closely with our founders and help turn outbound conversations into new client relationships.

We're based in San Francisco and bringing the team to Salt Lake City to meet and onboard everyone in person. After onboarding the role is hybrid in Salt Lake City. Visits to our HQ in San Francisco to meet the team and other startups in the Bay are optional.

Your mission

Introduce Clera's recruiting services to founders and hiring leaders through consistent, high-volume outbound sales. Start conversations, understand whether a company needs help hiring, and book qualified meetings for our founders or sales team.

Most of your day will be spent making calls, sending emails and LinkedIn messages, and following up with prospects. You'll use prospect lists, outreach sequences, and AI tools to work efficiently. Research should give you enough context for a useful conversation, not take up the time you could spend having one.

This is a client acquisition role, not a candidate recruiting position. It's a good fit for someone who enjoys speaking with new people, can maintain a steady pace of outreach, and wants to get better at sales through regular practice and feedback.

What you'll do

  • Own the phone. Call founders and hiring leaders every day, lead with why Clera matters to them, and turn cold conversations into booked meetings. We give you the prospect lists, sequences, and AI tools; you bring the energy and the follow-through.
  • Use email and LinkedIn alongside calling. Run outreach sequences, send concise messages, and respond promptly when prospects show interest. Make small, relevant adjustments to your messaging without spending hours preparing each contact.
  • Follow up consistently. Call when you said you would, send the information a prospect asked for, and reconnect when the timing is better. Handle common objections professionally and know when to continue a conversation or respect a clear no.
  • Qualify and book meetings. Find out what a company is hiring for, how soon it needs help, and who is involved in the decision. Book meetings where there is a genuine reason to speak, confirm the next step, and help reschedule missed meetings.
  • Keep useful sales records. Log calls, responses, meeting outcomes, and follow-up dates in the CRM. Give whoever takes the meeting a short, clear summary of the company's needs, what was discussed, and any questions that still need answering.
  • Use tools to spend more time selling. Use AI and automation for repetitive preparation, message variations, and administrative work. Check what the tools produce and keep the communication accurate and relevant.
  • Improve your approach. Review calls and results with the team, practice handling objections, and test different opening lines and messages. Share what you're hearing from prospects so we can improve how we explain and sell Clera.

What we're looking for

  • Comfort with the phone. You're willing to call people who aren't expecting you, explain why you're calling, and ask for a meeting when there's a fit. You can listen as well as talk.
  • Consistency. You can sustain a high volume of outreach across the week, including when responses are slow. You organize your day, finish follow-ups, and take responsibility for your activity.
  • Clear communication. You can write a short email and explain an offer in plain language. You're comfortable speaking with founders and hiring managers without overcomplicating the conversation.
  • Coachability. You're willing to review a call that didn't go well, try a different approach, and put feedback into practice. You care about improving rather than defending the first version of your pitch.
  • Interest in building a sales career. You want to understand how businesses buy, enjoy working toward measurable results, and are curious about startups and AI. You're comfortable joining a small team where the process will continue to evolve.

Helpful experience

Experience in an SDR or BDR role, appointment setting, recruiting sales, inside sales, or another high-volume customer-facing role would be useful. Familiarity with CRMs, sales dialers, and outreach sequences is a plus.

You don't need a particular degree or a long list of sales jobs to apply. Evidence that you can communicate, follow through, and learn quickly matters more. Candidates starting their sales career are welcome.

What success looks like

You build a reliable routine of high-volume outreach and turn it into conversations with relevant companies. Interested prospects receive timely follow-up, booked meetings take place, and the team has the context it needs to turn those meetings into sales opportunities.

We'll assess your work through outreach consistency, conversations started, qualified meetings held, and the opportunities those meetings generate. Both activity and results matter, along with how your effectiveness improves over time.

Why join Clera

Learn directly from the founders. Work close to the people building and selling the business. You'll hear how prospects respond, see what happens after a meeting is booked, and understand how your work contributes to winning a customer.

Build practical sales skills. Develop cold calling, objection handling, qualification, and follow-up skills through real conversations. Learn to use AI tools as part of an everyday sales workflow.

Help shape how we sell. You'll be expected to execute, but your observations will also matter. An opening line that works, a recurring objection, or an overlooked customer need can change the team's approach.

Interested?

Apply with your resume or LinkedIn profile and a short note about why this role interests you. Previous sales results are useful to include, but applicants without sales experience are welcome too.
